David Sarabi, founder / owner at Eurocode Tuning in Torrance, CA, knows what he’s doing when it comes to tuning VW Auto Group’s offerings. I met Dave when prepping my car for this year’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and it was clear from the start he has a passion for these cars. He was bringing both his Mk7 Golf GTI (seen above) and Mk7 Golf R out to the GP event as well, and he suggested trying out one of his MQB Mk7 GTI Downpipes (w/ Hi-Flow Cat) for my car in the pursuit of extra power. I agreed, and we installed the downpipe, first with a stock tune (our car’s only other engine mod is an Injen SP Series intake). The car sounded amazing, emitting a perfect tone with the downpipe and stock exhaust combo. No drone whatsoever (despite my very sensitive ears for droning...), not loud at all until you really step on it. The power gains with the downpipe alone were definitely palpable as well, a worthy upgrade in its own right for those looking to stick with the stock tunes on their car. After testing the downpipe by itself, I came back to Eurocode for a flash upgrade to the APR Stage 2 ECU programming. Wow. The combination of this downpipe and said tune turns this car into a complete monster... The difference between stock and how it drives following the downpipe/tune is more than night and day, it’s on a different planet. Second gear pulls are met with traction control lights flickering and the limited slip differential doing its best to shuffle the power around to the poor front tires. Third gear pulls elicit arrestable speeds before you know what’s happened.

The net result of this upgrade in the Tuner GP was an extremely respectable placing in the standings despite having to retire our car due to a PCV related issue after only a few laps. We ran for maybe 10 minutes out of the 2 hours plus of track time and still beat about half of the competition’s times at the end of the day with an otherwise mostly-stock car, so thanks again to Eurocode for introducing us to this product and making our GTI come alive. What an upgrade!

Good to know. I’ve heard downpipe + tune really wakes these cars up. I’m not about to purchase in near future but good to know when that warranty gets a little closer to expiring.
